Contact: Oksana Konstantyniv, PhD, Senior Lecturer of speech therapy and special methods in Kamyanets-Podilsky National Ivan Ohienko University. Academic interests: vocational training of children with special educational needs and correction of psychophysical development of children with severe speech disorders.
The article discusses the development of listening skills in primary school children with the general underdevelopment of speech. It has been proven that success in learning depends not only on the state of speaking formation, but also on the formation of listening ability, the ability to perceive and understand information in a collective communication environment, the ability to use the results of listening
in educational texts, and the use of recordings perceived for auditory messages. Analysis of the literature shows the special significance of the designated problem of children with typical development, and in particular children with general speech underdevelopment. Children with severe speech impairment experience significant difficulties in the presence of basic ideas, topics, the number of parts, when drawing up a plan of the text. The analysis of psycholinguistic studies allowed us to distinguish four levels of formation of
classroom skills, namely, primary, basic, medium and high. In children with general speech underdevelopment, there is an insufficient knowledge of listening skills, which leads to an ineffective perception of educational material. At the level of perception of information by ear, younger students with general speech impairment do not have effective listening methods, do not fully understand the importance of this type of activity, use a limited range of listening skills, do not always ask clarifying questions, do not accurately repeat what they heard. Most elementary school students do not always realize the relevance of listening to themselves and do not always know how to express
their attitude to listening. At the level of understanding the content of the message heard, most of the younger students are at the initial and basic levels. The main types of listening: global, detailed and critical, are not sufficiently developed among primary school students.
Key words: listening, understanding and perception of speech, speech activity, children with general underdevelopment of speech.
